St. Paul School Library is a full service library that
uses the Dewey Decimal system for classifying books and
materials. We house a variety of books in both
non-fiction and fiction, as well as a video library for
classroom use. We also have several computer workstations
with network and internet access. The St. Paul School
Library is proud to be the recipient of two grants during
the 2008- 2009 academic year. Our Library has been
awarded a collection of books, the We the People Created
Equal bookshelf, by the National Endowment for the
Humanities along with the American Library Association.
The Picturing America collection of materials was awarded
also through the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Grades K-3
Our Kindergarten through 3rd
grade students visit the library once a week for story
time. They are permitted and encouraged to borrow a book
during their visit.
Grade 4
Our 4th
grade students visit the library once a week for library
skills. They experience an in-depth review of fiction and
non-fiction books, being introduced to the Dewey decimal
system and the parts of a book. They cap off the year by
writing and “publishing” their own books.
Grade 5
Fifth grade students visit the library twice a month for
Library Skills and twice a month for Life Skills. During
Library skills, they review the Dewey decimal system,
card catalog and research skills, including internet
search engines. They are permitted and encouraged to
borrow books during each visit.
Grades 6-7-8
Our middle school students visit the library once a week
for Life Skills class. They are permitted and encouraged
to borrow books during their visits.

2010 Reading Challenge:
(K-4) In conjunction with the 2010 Winter Olympic Games,
the SPS Library challenges students in grades K-4 to set
their own records! Starting February 1st
students can sign up for the challenge and receive a
Reading Record from the library to record their books.
They are required to read
6 books of appropriate
reading level
during the month of February. For the first book, the
students will receive
a “bronze” sticker. After 2 additional books (3 books
total) they will receive a “silver” sticker. After the
final 3 books (6 books total), they will receive their
“gold” sticker, a certificate for being a record-breaking
reader, a bookmark. Students who successfully complete
the challenge will also choose a book from a selection of
donated new books in the library!
