All students will attend Technology class two times each week. The class is held in a Computer Lab that houses 32 desktop computers. There will many opportunities for our students in Third through Eighth Grades to use our notebook computers. The students will acquire skills that will help them work more proficiently with desktops and notebooks for cross-curricular projects in Math, Integrated Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, Art, and even Spanish.
Within the first week of school all students will review the Acceptable Use Policy for Technology with me and sign a contract that states they understand the acceptable use of the computers. Parents should read this policy on our Web Site and should review it with their child. Kindergarten through Fourth Grade will attend a 30-minute class two times weekly and our Fifth through Eighth Graders will attend class for 45 minutes twice a week. All of the students will be introduced to Keyboarding (typing) by learning the proper home row keys and posture as well as using age-appropriate typing programs to enhance their familiarity with the keyboard as well as speed and accuracy.

Students in Kindergarten through Fourth Grade are taught various types of programs that introduce many types of Technology concepts. Through out the school year each grade will apply the skills to a project designed for that grade level. Students in Fifth through Eighth Grade will expand their knowledge by being introduced to programs that are used in the business world today. These students will learn how to manipulate the programs and use them for their studies in Math, ILA, Social Studies, Science and Art as well as how they will use them in Higher Education and in the Business World in their future.

Each assignment is given a grade dependent upon the following:
• Class work assignments will be graded based on the student’s demonstration of their understanding of the concepts being taught through the project given to them to complete. Every student will be given the requirements verbally and visually according to the grade level.
• Many grades are derived from visual assessment and students are told in the beginning of the year that I will assess them by reviewing their abilities to show me that they understand the concepts being taught.
• This year, I will be incorporating tests and quizzes to be used to assist in the evaluation of the student’s individual progress. Kindergarten through 4th Grade is mainly visual assessments with a few projects. The students in 5th through 8th Grade will have a written test each trimester, several grades for projects and a grade for their copybook each trimester. STUDENTS IN 5TH to 8TH GRADES SHOULD HAVE A SEPARATE COPYBOOK FOR TECHNOLOGY CLASS.
• Students in 5th through 8th Grades are responsible for making up any notes or work missed while they are out for sickness, vacation, and school events or for any other reason. Students should get missed notes from classmates and see me to discuss additional time they may need to complete a project.
